Privacy Policy

Anime Enjoyment Engine ("AEE", "we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. By using AEE you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account data: email address, display name, and optional username and avatar that you provide at sign-up.
- Library & ratings: the anime you track, statuses, episode counts, scores, notes, and tags you create.
- Companion conversations (Aether): messages you send to our AI companion are processed to generate replies. See section 4.
- Imports: when you import from AniList or MyAnimeList, we fetch only the public list for the username you supply.
- Usage & diagnostics: aggregated app interactions, device type, OS version, and crash logs used to improve stability and recommendations. We do not sell this data.
- Purchase data: if you subscribe to Premium, the App Store (or our payment processor on web) shares a transaction identifier and subscription status with us. We never see your card or Apple ID password.
2. How we use it
- To provide core features: tracking, rating, stats, recommendations, and Companion.
- To secure accounts, detect abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- To send essential service emails (password resets, security notices, receipts).
- To improve the app via aggregated, de-identified analytics.
We do not use your data for behavioural advertising and we do not send marketing emails without your explicit opt-in.
3. Sharing
We share data only with the infrastructure providers needed to operate AEE: authentication, database, hosting, crash reporting, and the AI providers powering Companion (see section 4). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and security terms. We do not sell personal data.
4. AI & Companion (Aether)
The Companion feature uses third-party large-language-model providers (currently Google Gemini and OpenAI, via the Lovable AI Gateway) to generate responses. When you send a message, the message text and limited context (your recent library entries the model needs to answer) are transmitted to those providers for inference. We do not permit those providers to train their models on your conversations. Conversation history is stored on our servers so you can revisit it and is deleted when you delete your account or clear chat history in Companion → Settings.
5. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, library, ratings, notes, and Companion history are permanently removed within 30 days. Aggregated, de-identified analytics may be retained indefinitely. Backups containing deleted data are purged within 90 days.
6. Your rights
You can access, export, edit, or permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete account. Residents of the EU/EEA, UK, California, and other jurisdictions with comprehensive privacy laws have additional rights, including the right to access, correct, port, restrict processing of, or delete personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us at aee.support.official@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
California (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
7. Children
AEE is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. In-app purchases require an Apple ID that meets Apple's age requirements; minors should obtain guardian consent before any purchase. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact aee.support.official@gmail.com and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including TLS in transit, encryption at rest, row-level access controls, and least-privilege secrets management. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and enable 2FA where available.
9. International transfers
Our servers and sub-processors operate in the United States and European Union. By using AEE you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in those regions under appropriate safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses).
10. Third-party content
Anime metadata and cover art come from AniList and MyAnimeList. Their respective terms apply to that content.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
